Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Encore Juvenile Fillies Led by New York Winners

9/3/2015

Encore Racing Based Games has signed on as the new title sponsor of the $300,000 Encore Juvenile Fillies at Kentucky Downs on opening day, Sept 5. The race has drawn on overflow field.

Sixteen were entered in the seven furlong contest. A maximum of 12 will run. The 3-1 morning line favorite is Simple Surprise, a daughter of Cowboy Cal trained by Steve Asmussen and to be ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr. Simple Surprise comes in to the race undefeated in her first two career starts, most recently notching a one-length victory in the $100,000 Bolton Landing Stakes going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf on Aug. 19 at Saratoga.

The 7-2 second favorite is Seaside Schiller, a daughter of Artie Schiller trained by Michael Matz. Rafael Hernandez has the mount. This will be the second career start for Seaside Schiller, following her maiden special weight one-length victory on July 16 at Belmont Park.

Another filly to watch is the Wesley Ward-trained Moment Is Right, a daughter of top sire Medaglia d’Oro. Joel Rosario will up on Moment is Right, who notched a 1 1/2-length victory in the Astoria Stakes at Belmont on June 4 and followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the Grade III Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga on July 24.

Encore was founded in 2013 to engage in Historical Horse Racing and is in business at Kentucky Downs. Encore has invested in the future of horse racing by bringing to market a line of electronic pari-mutuel games capable of delivering an engaging player experience and a welcome business uplift for racing – millions of dollars of documented direct revenue benefits for authorizing states, track operators, horse owners, trainers, breeders and other industry stakeholders

Kentucky Downs’ 2015 meeting includes five racing dates (Sept, 5, 10, 12, 16, 19) with record purses totaling $7.5 million. In addition to the $300,000 Encore Juvenile Fillies stakes race, the opening day live racing card also features the $300,000 Calumet Farm Juvenile and the $300,000 More Than Ready Mile, presented by WinStar Farm.
