Nyquist Belmont Status on Hold
By Dick Downey
According to reports, connections to Nyquist said late Monday morning he has an elevated temperature.
The Kentucky Derby winner won't be shipped from Pimlico to Belmont Park today, and Nyquist's status for the Belmont Stakes has come into question.
DRF.com reported that Doug O'Neill revealed the temperature spike.
Bloodhorse.com a few minutes later cited Dennis O'Neill, Doug's brother, saying, “I think he has some sort of virus we need to get under control. He ate well, but his temperature was 102 so we decided not to ship. We drew some blood and will know more tomorrow."
According to thehorse.com, the normal temperature range for a Thoroughbred is 99 to 101 degrees.
