Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Headlined by Catch a Glimpse

Penn Mile Noms Close with 37

The fourth running of the Penn Mile has drawn 37 nominations, and it looks like a quality field will emerge for the June 4 race.

Among the top names is Juvenile Fillies Turf champion Catch a Glimpse, who would start against male rivals in the Penn Mile. The daughter of City Zip has won six in a row for the Mark Casse barn, most recently, a determined effort in the Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 6. Under Florent Geroux, she prevailed over 12 rivals. The chestnut filly was honored in Canada with the Sovereign Award 2015 Horse of the Year and other honors.

Casse also nominated Airoforce. Forced to steady in the American Turf on Kentucky Derby day, the gray colt finished fourth. His last win came in the Kentucky Jockey Club. He ran second in the 2015 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.

Camelot Kitten came from off the pace to capture the American Turf. Trained by Chad Brown, the Kitten's Joy colt has made five career starts and would seek his third win.

Kentucky Derby also-ran Oscar Nominated from the barn of Mike Maker is also nominated. He won the Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park to earn his ticket to the Derby.

Shug McGaughey nominated Inspector Lynley, a son of Lemon Drop Kid. The colt made his stakes debut earlier this year, running third in the Transylvania at Keeneland.

Complete nominations

Last year’s Penn Mile winner Force the Pass went on to win the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes and hit the board in three additional graded stakes in 2015. In 2014, Bobby’s Kitten went on to take the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
