Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

With Second Breeze Since Derby....

Destin Moves Closer to Belmont

By Dick Downey

Destin breezed five furlongs in 1:01.85 (5/9) on the Belmont Park training track Friday morning for the Belmont Stakes.

It was his second workout since finishing sixth in the Kentucky Derby. A week ago, Destin went four furlongs in 48:22 (2/34), breezing, on the training track.

Racing at Belmont Park, Destin would be returning to the site of his maiden win last October.

"He had a good breeze with a solid gallop out and seems to be in good form," trainer Todd Pletcher said.

Destin is one of four horses probable or possible for the Belmont Stakes currently at Belmont Park. One is his stablemate, fourth-place Preakness finisher Stradivari. Also on the grounds are Peter Pan Stakes runner-up Governor Malibu, and the Japanese-based Lani, fifth in the Preakness. Exaggerator is scheduled to arrive in New York on Sunday.

Other possible starters for the Belmont include:
--Preakness runner-up Cherry Wine and his stablemate Brody's Cause, currently at Churchill Downs and expected to arrive over the weekend;
--Suddenbreakingnews, scheduled to ship in the week of the race; and
--Creator, whose travel plans from Churchill have yet to be determined.

Wild About Deb, third in the Peter Pan,is questionable.
