Exaggerator in New York
By Dick Downey
Exaggerator arrived at Belmont Park via van from Pimlico in good order early Sunday afternoon and will be on the track Monday.
Accompanied by assitant trainer Julie Clark, Exaggerator stepped off the van just after Noon. He walked a few laps around a walking ring and showed good energy.
"That's him mellow," Clark joked.
Exaggerator is scheduled to have a light gallop Monday. Since the Preakness he's been out twice -- on Wednesday and Saturday.
"We usually walk two days after a race, and then we walk on Tuesdays and Sundays and put in another walk day, just to make it more exciting for the hotwalkers," explained Clark.
Clark said that Exaggerator is no worse from the wear of running in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness two weeks apart.
"By Sunday, he was squealing and on his toes, and by Monday he was a handful," she said. "He doesn't notice when he runs, it seems. That factor comes right back."
Including Exaggerator, there are nine probables/possibles for the Belmont. Destin, Governor Malibu, Lani and Stradivari are on the grounds.
Brody's Cause and Cherry Wine are scheduled to ship from Churchill Downs on Tuesday. Suddenbreakingnews will be shipped by plane to New York on June 7. Creator's plans are not out there yet, but we should know more after he breezes on Monday.
