Prospective Rebel Field Grows

Silver Dust Added to Cast

Lightly raced Silver Dust is pointing for the Rebel Stakes on March 18, trainer Randy Morse said Friday morning.

Silver Dust finished fourth in Monday’s Southwest Stakes under Corey Lanerie, beaten 12 1/4 lengths in his first start this year, his first at two turns and the third of his career. He blew away a maiden field going a mile at Churchill Downs last November. He also ran a mile in his debut.

“He ran pretty good, I thought,” Morse said of Silver Dust's effort in the Southwest. “He was tight. Overall, he galloped out real strong after the race. I know the jock’s high on him, so that’s good enough for me.”

Silver Dust, a son of Tapit, races for prominent Texas automobile dealer Tom Durant, who purchased the gray colt for $510,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March Sale of 2-year-olds in training.
