Tuesday Toyota Blue Grass Stakes Barn Notes

The six Toyota Blue Grass horses on the Keeneland grounds had routine mornings on a mild and breezy Tuesday.

Irap galloped 1 1/4 mile on the main track after the renovation break with Antonio Romero aboard for trainer Doug O’Neill.

It's Your Nickel

It’s Your Nickel galloped 1 1/2 mile on the main track during the first set under Pablo Portes.

Morning-line favorite McCraken jogged to the starting gate before returning to the barn via the walking ring and paddock with exercise rider Yoni Orantes up for trainer Ian Wilkes.

Practical Joke

Practical Joke galloped 1 3/8 mile on the main track around 7:00 under exercise rider Fernando Rivera. With an eye on the weather, trainer Chad Brown said the colt might go to the track Wednesday at 7:00 or 8:45 after a visit to the paddock.

Tapwrit galloped 1 3/8 mile before the break under Romain Techer for trainer Todd Pletcher. Winner of the Tampa Bay Derby in his most recent start, Tapwrit is scheduled to visit the gate Wednesday, according to Ginny DePasquale, who is overseeing Todd Pletcher’s Keeneland string.

Todd Pletcher won the Toyota Blue Grass with Bandini in 2005, Monba in 2008 and Carpe Diem in 2015. He is one of five trainers to win this race three times. The others are all Hall of Famers: LeRoy Jolley, Ben Jones, Woody Stephens and Nick Zito. Jose Ortiz on Tapwrit will be seeking his first Toyota Blue Grass victory.

Wild Shot

Wild Shot walked the shedrow at trainer Rusty Arnold’s barn a day after working a half-mile in :48.20.
