Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Saturday: Wet Day at Churchill Downs

McCraken and J Boys Echo were the only two 3-year-olds on the sloppy main track Saturday during the first session of the special Oaks/Derby training hours at Churchill Downs. Both colts galloped.

McCraken went 1 3/4 mile with regular exercise rider Yoni Orantes aboard. He's scheduled to breeze Monday at 8:30 a.m. with Brian Hernandez Jr. in the irons.

J Boy’s Echo galloped 1 1/2 mile with exercise rider Tammy Fox up and is on target to breeze five furlongs Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Several trainers sent their Derby and Oaks contenders to train between 6-7 a.m.

Arkansas Derby winner Classic Empire jogged one mile with regular exercise rider Martin Rivera up for trainer Mark Casse. The 2-year-old champion is expected to breeze next weekend.

Casse’s other Derby contender State of Honor jogged one mile at 6:00 a.m. He'll have the day off Sunday, according to assistant trainer Norm Casse.

Sunland Derby winner Hence made an appearance during trainer Steve Asmussen’s first set at 6:00 a.m. Saturday and is expected to breeze in the first set Monday morning when training begins.

Spiral winner Fast and Accurate was scheduled to breeze at 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Trackside Louisville but trainer Mike Maker decided to wait until Sunday or Monday when the weather dries out.

In New York, Cloud Computing is out of consideration for the Kentucky Derby and will be trained toward the Preakness, and Battalion Runner breezed four furlongs in 48.96.
