There will be four $75,000 starter-allowance races on Sunday, Sept. 10, that serve as automatic qualifiers for the Claiming Crown scheduled for Dec. 2 at Gulfstream Park.
The Claiming Crown provides the blue-collar horses that fill out American racing programs with their own big day, run under starter-allowance conditions.
“We aim to appeal to an array of interests and industry stake-holders,” said Kentucky Downs senior vice president and general manager Ted Nicholson. “We offer some of the finest grass racing on a daily basis in the world, but we also want that to include blue-collar horses such as those in the Claiming Crown. No one can beat our combination of takeout and field sizes for the horseplayer.
