Bolt d’Oro put in a workout Sunday for next Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby, going five furlongs in 1:01.20 (11/77) with former jockey Agapito Delgadillo up.
The work was in company with and outside of Midnight Harbor, a claiming level runner with four workouts this years that was clocked in 1:01.60 (20/77). Owner-trainer Mick Ruis said the workout was good.
“He did everything he needed to do,” said private clocker Toby Turrell of Bolt d’Oro’s work. “He finished up real well and was under no real pressure at all. He was right on point.”
Ruis worked another Santa Anita Derby nominee Sunday in Orbit Rain, a son Orb winless in three races. He went five furlongs in 1:01.80 under Brice Blanc, who is named ride him.
Pepe Tono also worked Sunday for a possible start in the Santa Anita Derby. Trainer Victor Garcia sent him out for five furlongs in 1:01.20 (11/77). Pepe Tono was last seen finishing third, beaten 7 3/4 lengths by Justify, in a one-mile allowance race at the track on March 11.
Justify is set to work on Monday, with a decision pending on whether he'll be sent to the April 14 Arkansas Derby or go in the Santa Anita Derby out with stable mate McKinzie sidelined for that race. Entries will close Wednesday.
