Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Kentucky Downs has a European-style turf course, unique to North America,. Race distances range from six furlongs to 1 1/2 mile.

The race course is among the longest in North America at 1 5/16 mile. It's not an oval, and there are elevation changes throughout the course, some more subtle than others. A long, sweeping turn where horses go "down the dip" precedes a lengthy stretch run. They say it's a quarter-mile from the final turn to the finish line, but it seems longer than that as the horses run slightly uphill to get home.
